1587758 km2
is the size of the Division of Durack, Western Australia, the largest Federal electorate in Australia. That's about 30% bigger than the whole of South Africa. Still not as big as the old electorate of Kalgoorlie (which has been abolished for the upcoming election) - it was about 2.3million km2, which is only marginally smaller than Algeria, the largest country in Africa.

How many voters in it?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure - the electoral divisions are supposed to be based on population: WA has a population of around 2.2million and 15 electorates, so each one _should_ have around 150000 people. There is usually around 10% variation allowed, but sometimes that is increased for the big rural electorates.

Actually, as a reference, the old seat of Kalgoorlie which was a lot bigger in area had a population of 142000. So I'd assume less than that!
